Abdiel is based in Manhattan and manages $3 billion. The fund concentrates capital in the shares of ten or so publicly traded high-quality companies. Summer analysts assist the firm's principals in finding businesses whose product superiority enables them to take market share for a long time. Analysts learn how to assess competitive positioning, valuations, managements, and company cultures across industries and geographies. We use our summer program to identify people who would thrive as full-time analysts with us upon graduation.

Chief qualifications are curiosity, intelligence, and evidence of enthusiasm for self-directed research projects. The candidate should be comfortable writing concisely, working with numbers, and presenting conclusions orally. Related work experience is not required. Coursework in finance or economics is not required. Applicants should be interested in learning how to interpret financial statements and gather information through interviewing industry sources.

Candidates must possess a minimum GPA of 3.8 or other evidence of exceptional intellectual ability. Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to apply along with juniors.

Compensation will generally range between $8,300 and $16,600 per month.

The same thing we look for in our own. Leaders who care viscerally about the quality of the products they sell. A corporate culture in which people thrive. Coincidence or not, in our experience we make more money with companies we admire than with those we don’t.

What Abdiel does

Abdiel generally invests in publicly traded companies that are likely to gain market share over long time periods. We prefer businesses that have recurring revenue and that are managed by people with a large share of their net worth in the stock. Our ten largest investments frequently comprise more than 75% of invested capital.

What we want for our investors

Returns that are good on an absolute basis and that outperform the market, measured over 3-5 years.

How we value companies

We estimate the return a company’s cash flows would deliver to someone who bought the entire business at the available stock price and held it permanently.
