The Maryland Technology Development Corporation d/b/a TEDCO is an organization established by the Maryland General Assembly for the purpose of identifying early stage technology and life sciences entrepreneurs in the state of Maryland, cultivating them, and helping bring their innovations to market. The Investment Team within TEDCO is seeking two Investment Analysts to support operations.
Position Summary
This position is a part of the TEDCO investment team and supports the operations and execution of the investment process. Responsibilities include providing support throughout the data gathering, investment diligence process, and portfolio support activities. This role is tasked with completing initial diligence for new investment opportunities, performing financial and data analytics for current portfolio companies, and maintaining the integrity of software systems used by the investment team. A demonstrated ability to use Generative AI is important.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
- Provide data input into Salesforce, Aumni, and other internal reporting systems with up-to-date and accurate applicant and portfolio company information.
- Ensure portfolio companies provide timely, complete reports and payments as required by their funding agreements.
- Routine correspondence with companies seeking investment as well as active portfolio companies.
- Qualify and analyze new investment opportunities using tools such as Chat GPT:
- Contribute to company-specific analyses due diligence with quantitative/qualitative research on prospective new investments including:
- Financial & Business Modeling
- Market & customer sizing & analysis
- Customer, market, investor, stakeholder, and other interviews
- Research relevant tech sectors/startup financing trends and present findings to the team.
- Attend pitch meetings with the investment team and support other internal meetings as needed.
- Represent TEDCO at local tech/VC events, conferences, and networking activities.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a Business, Finance, or a related tech/biotech field
- Up to 2 years of experience in Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Consulting or Finance
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Strong affinity for and referenceable examples of alignment with TEDCO’s mission, vision, and values.
- Familiarity with and demonstrated interest in the startup ecosystem.
- An understanding of the venture capital industry and deal mechanics including cap tables and waterfall analyses.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and complex formulas; financial modeling experience and use of AI tools.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can deliver projects in a self-directed way.
- Strong project management and quantitative skills, excellent communication & collaboration capabilities.
- High attention to detail and accountability with proven ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Preference for working in a fast-paced environment in which a commercial perspective on technical ideas are all highly valued.
- Ability to travel within Maryland up to 20%.
